Inshore
Trips
There are an abundant variety of fishing opportunities within the sounds
and inlets around Bogue Banks. Speckled and grey sea trout can show up
in great numbers in the fall with 4lb and larger sized fish are quite
common. These fish can show up almost anywhere from the area marshes to
deeper areas of the sound. Flounder also frequent the inlets, deepwater
holes, and the numerous bridge & pier structures. Drum, bluefish,
and Spanish mackerel school in the inlets and can all be taken on light
tackle, trolling or even on the fly. Even trophy sized sharks can be caught
inshore on artificials and even the fly. Check the Whats
Biting? portion of the site to find out the peak seasons for
each of these exciting species.

Nearshore Trips
Close
to the beaches, other quarry awaits. Plentiful bluefish, false albacore,
and Spanish mackerel can be taken by trolling or by casting to feeding
frenzies with light tackle and flies. Doormat flounder can be taken by
bottom fishing around many of the local shipwrecks and artificial reefs
not far offshore. Big schools of bull drum or pods of cobia show themselves
and can be sight fished while cruising the surf zone. Sea trout are also
available in the sloughs and structure along the beaches. Live bait fishing
often yields smoker king mackerel, sharks, barracuda and amberjack often
within sight of land.

Offshore
Trips
When the weather and seas permit, offshore and even gulf stream trips
are possible. Offshore trips are generally in excess of 15-20 miles out
to see and are full 8 hour day minimum charters. At certain times the
gulf stream can be within 30-35 miles of shore. Slow trolling live bait
and fast trolling rigged ballyhoo result in a host of pelagic fish including
dolphin, wahoo, tuna, king mackerel, and even billfish. Bottom fishing
the offshore wrecks, reefs and live bottoms with high speed metal jigs
and live bait can bring in grouper, amberjack, sharks, and other deep
water fish.
